Hold My Whiskey While We Fix Downtown - Whiskey Taco Foxtrot

Send us Fan Mail You can tell a lot about a city by what happens when you let people step outside with a drink. We set up a pop-up recording at Whiskey Taco Foxtrot in Clawson, Michigan during Social District Sunday, with a mobile cigar lounge parked nearby and a scavenger hunt pushing people to explore downtown. The result is equal parts whiskey hang, community experiment, and practical guide to what social districts actually are and how they work when they’re done right.  We talk through the biggest misunderstandings we keep hearing: whether the social district only applies during street-closure events, what the stickered cup is really for, and why you can’t just walk your cocktail onto any patio you want. Charlie shares why the social district mattered during COVID-19 recovery, how to-go cocktails kept people employed, and what it takes to keep participation growing across bars and restaurants. If you care about walkable downtowns, small business momentum, or local events that don’t feel forced, this one has real takeaways.  Then we get into the glass. We run down the cocktail lineup, zoom in on an Elijah Craig Small Batch Old Fashioned, and explain why higher proof bourbon stands up better to sugar and bitters, especially outdoors. We also connect the “Snap And Smoke” theme to whiskey barrel charring history and close with a spotlight on the Southern Smoke Foundation and Old Fashioned Week giving that supports hospitality workers.
