Should Social Media People Know Graphic Design?

Description

Send us Fan Mail Rachel poses a bit of a hot take this week: should social media people know graphic design?  She traces her own path from FreeHand tutorials at a church job (yes, that's aging her, her words) through clip art manipulation in Microsoft Office, all the way to getting "set loose" on Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator, and how that design eye ended up being the edge that got her into marketing in the first place. Her answer is yes, at least a little, but she makes the case for social folks and design teams working together instead of in silos, with designers building on-brand templates that social can customize without starting from scratch every time. She fully expects some pushback on this one and wants to hear from social media pros who don't know a lick of design and are doing just fine. 00:00 Monday Kickoff 00:21 Old School Social Media 01:09 Learning Design Basics 02:20 Early Video Editing Detour 02:52 Design Skills In Marketing 03:16 Should Social Know Design 03:27 From Clip Art To Adobe 04:14 Working With Design Teams 05:39 Canva Templates Done Right 06:06 Wrap Up And Callbacks 06:25 Weekly Encouragement 06:45 Final Goodbye Support the show This is our cue to say, "But wait, there's Moore!"
