Matt’s Kind of Podcast

This month, in a bumper triple-length 90-minute episode, Richard and Michele speak to Matt Monro Jnr about his life, career, and, of course, memories of his father. How close were Michele and Matt Jnr as children? How long did Matt survive at his first school? How did he begin his career as a singer, and why did he stop? These questions and many more are answered and argued over in this month's episode!

The first of what will eventually be an examination of Matt's recording career, starting with his first recording with the Harry Leader Orchestra in 1955, through to just before he won his recording contract with Parlophone in 1960. With clips from rare recordings and a detail you may not have noticed from his Decca LP. We value your questions and feedback, so please send us an email to [email protected]. Like, share & review where there are those options.

This week, Michele and Richard welcome DJ & Presenter Diddy David Hamilton as our guest, talking about his life and his love of Matt Monro. If you have any questions or anything to talk to us about at all please contact [email protected]

This month, Michele is in full rant mode about last month's Eurovision Song Contest, after which we get down to Matt Monro business and his links with Cliff Richard and some 60s BBC Pop radio shows. If you have any questions or anything you would like to speak to us about, please contact [email protected]

This week Michele and Richard discuss Eurovision links with Lulu and the European Broadcasting Union's attempts to track down the missing 1964 Song Contest featuring Matt, alongside other organisations such as Film is Fabulous and the Radio Circle, who do such great work in helping collectors or their families deal with collections which might otherwise be destroyed. And how you can easily get conned trying to recover material, if you're not careful. Please note that due to someone carelessly blowing up an oil tanker very close to Michele's house, which took out all her broadband and landline services (which still isn't restored a month later), Michele's data signal - routed through her phone - wasn't brilliantly stable and meant that the odd sentence gets a little bit garbled. Blame Openreach for taking their time! If you wish to contact us please email [email protected] Or [email protected] (Watch your spelling!)
