Millennials Are Killing Capitalism

Millennials Are Killing Capitalism

Details

We created this podcast in recognition that there are a number of podcasts for the American "left," but many of them focus heavily on the organizing of social democrats, progressives, and liberal democrats. Aside from that, on the left we are always fighting a war of ideas and if we do not continue to build platforms to share those ideas and the stories of their implementation from a leftist perspective, they will continue to be ignored, misrepresented, and dismissed by the capitalist media and as a result by the general public. Our goal is to provide a platform for communists, anti-imperialists, Black Liberation movements, ancoms, left libertarians, LBGTQ activists, feminists, immigration activists, and abolitionists to discuss radical politics, radical organizing and share their visions for a better world. Our goal is to center organizers who represent and work with marginalized communities building survival programs, defense programs, political education, and counterpower. We also plan to bring in perspectives on and from the global south to highlight anti-capitalist struggles outside the imperial core. We view solidarity with decolonization, indigenous, anti-imperialist, environmentalist, socialist, and anarchist movements across the world as necessary steps toward meaningful liberation for all people. Too often within the imperial core we focus on our own struggles without taking the time to understand those fighting for freedom from beneath the empire's thumb. It is important to highlight these struggles, learn what we can from them, offer solidarity, and support with action when we can. It is not enough to Fight For $15 an hour and Single-Payer within the core, while the US actively fights against the self-determination of the people of the global economically and militarily. We recognize that except for the extremely wealthy and privileged, our fates and struggles are intrinsically connected. We hope that our podcast becomes a meaningful platform for organizers and activists fighting for social change to connect their local movements to broader movements centered around the fight to end imperialism, capitalism, racism, discrimination based on gender identity or sexuality, sexism, and ableism. French Theory in the Intellectual Cold War With Gabriel Rockhill
Gabriel Rockhill is a philosopher and activist who has published nine books. He is the Founding Director of the Critical Theory Workshop and Professor of Philosophy at Villanova University. The book we're discussing today is Requiem for French Theory: Transatlantic Funeral Dirge in a Marxist Key. It is a conversation between Gabriel Rockhill and Aymeric Monville facilitated by Jennifer Ponce De Leon with an introduction from John Bellamy Foster. Book description from Monthly Review Press: "French Theory is due for an insider critique, and in Requiem for French Theory, Aymeric Monville and Gabriel Rockhill do just that. Drawing upon decades of studying French philosophy in Paris, they build upon the best Marxist criticisms of postmodernism, while further developing them by situating postmodern theory within the global political economy of knowledge and U.S. driven intellectual imperialism. The result is a broad dialogue on topics ranging from international class struggle and the dissemination of ideology, to fascism, identity politics, dialectics, actually existing socialism, and more." "The Owl of Minerva Has Yet to Take Flight" - Mujamma Haraket on Tufan Al-Aqsa 3 Years Later
Today marks the third anniversary of Tufan Al Aqsa, the Palestinian resistance's historic jailbreak out of the Gaza concentration camp. Since October 7th, 2023 asymmetrical warfare has been waged across West Asia. The consensus of the international community has been that the Israeli occupation has committed genocide in Gaza. Many fronts have experienced intense warfare for years now. The Syrian Arab Republic has fallen, Yemen is in an existential struggle against Saudi Arabia, Lebanon has been under severe military siege, and Iran has defended itself against multiple wars of aggression and intense rounds of political assassinations. For this episode we wanted to bring on a scholar who could talk more deeply about some of the inner workings of the Palestinian resistance factions, leading up to October 7th, 2023, discuss the importance of the Palestinian prisoner struggle to the resistance, and talk about how the resistance has assessed Tufan Al Aqsa in the years since the operation given the changes in political and military standing, and global consciousness that have come about in the wake of the flood. Our guest for this episode is Mujamma Haraket. He is an academic based in the Middle East. And his areas of concentration include Palestinian muqawama history and political philosophy, with a particular emphasis on the Islamic Resistance Movement. You can find and support his substack at mujammaharaket.substack.com. Adventures in the Terrible Beauty of Resistance With the 'Death to Toll' Campaign
In this episode we had the rare opportunity to interview a spokesperson from a direct action group that has targeted Toll Holdings in Australia. The 'Death to Toll' campaign has engaged in a range of sabotage, vandalism and disruptive actions including sledgehammering windows, cutting internet cables, blockading roads and an international port entrance,. They have also slashed lines and cut valves to disable vehicles, covered facilities inside and out with paint and foul liquids, and sabotaged infrastructure such as signal boxes used by Toll. In this discussion we ask them about the development of the anti-zionist movement in Australia after October 7th, 2023. Ask about how the group settled on its target, prepared their campaign, and selected the tactics they wanted to use in their campaign. As our guest raises the spirit of adventure they see as important to taking meaningful direct action to confront the genocidal war machine, I also ask them what they think about allegations of "adventurism" that can be levied from the left at those who take up such action. Because this campaign is heavily under threat by the state we agreed to some additional security measures in this conversation. The voice you hear is not the actual voice of the person we interviewed. The original interview was transcribed and then converted to audio using a text to voice generator. Just as an editorial note or disclaimer: Amid heightened attacks on various forms of speech, as a platform we are not advocating that people engage in any form of illegal activity. But we do have to understand that the greatest crime that humanity has recognized, the crime of genocide, is still ongoing. There are moral, ethical, and even legal imperatives that people are engaging in order to try to stop that crime from continuing to unfold. This interview is a rare opportunity to hear from those who are taking direct action to halt genocide and war crimes. These actions have been threatened with severe repression and many who take these forms of action do face repression. We see it as a journalistic responsibility to ensure that people hear from those who are willing to take action to stop genocide. It is also very important that people show up and support political prisoners if we are to build a movement that is capable of confronting the machinery of genocide and imperialism. Mohamed Khougali on the Sudanese Revolution, Civil War, Racial Regimes, & Socially Reproductive Labor
In this episode we will speak with Mohamed Khougali about his recently published book Politically Unconscious: The Psychic Aftermath of the Sudanese Revolution, which is out now from our friends at Iskra Books (you can download a free pdf copy). This is an audio version of a video podcast. If you want to watch the video it's available here. Mohamed shares personal insights from his participation with the Neighborhood Resistance Committees during the Sudanese Revolution, he provides a historical backdrop to the Sudanese Civil War, and other moments in which Sudan has become legible to the western audiences, usually only as a site of upheaval or atrocity. It is a powerful conversation that touches on questions of political power, mass revolt, psychotherapy, racial regimes, cooptation, and revolutionary subjectivities. [CONTENT WARNING: The discussion does include discussions of traumatic events and s*xual assault. We do not delve into details or dwell on these stories, but they are used in the context of discussing Khougali's psychotherapeutic practice and events during the revolution] To support our work, gain access to our discord and study groups, please become a patron at https://www.patreon.com/millennialsarekillingcapitalism Mohamed Khougali is a Sudanese socialist writer and psychological practitioner based in Germany, where he continues to organise and serves as president of Black Radicals. His work engages questions of liberation and collective struggle through the combined lenses of the Black radical tradition and psychological theory.
