Description
What if becoming whole requires you to release some of the identities, beliefs and versions of yourself that once made you feel safe?
In this episode of Mirror Talk: Soulful Conversations, Tobi sits down with Cristine Hull, a writer, speaker, teacher and Doctor of Natural Medicine whose life has been shaped by addiction recovery, Christian faith, psychology, meditation, personal reinvention and a continuing exploration of consciousness and what she calls ego-management.
Cristine has lived through several profound transitions. At twenty, she experienced a dramatic shift from cocaine addiction toward Christian faith. Years later, an encounter with a former Buddhist monk during a period of intense anxiety challenged her understanding of healing, spirituality and the ways truth can sometimes arrive outside the frameworks we have built around it.
Her professional journey has been equally unconventional. Cristine has worked in substance-abuse counselling, school psychology and clinical mental health before eventually stepping away from a thriving practice and exploring more integrative approaches to human wellbeing.
But this conversation goes far beyond professional credentials.
Cristine opens up about changing her marriage, family life, home, name and career; confronting unsuccessful business approaches; learning to recognise the ego even within spiritual growth; and discovering why surrender has become one of the defining themes of her life.
We explore:
What addiction may be searching for beneath the surface
Faith, spirituality and the courage to question familiar beliefs
How ego can disguise itself as certainty, enlightenment or the need to be right
Remaining open to unconventional ideas without abandoning discernment
Why personal transformation sometimes requires letting an old identity die
The difference between surrender and giving up
Cristine’s idea of “being at zero” and returning to neutrality
Physical, psychological, spiritual, relational and financial wholeness
Taking the next step when life does not reveal the entire path
What it means to live a truly soulful life

One of the most powerful ideas Cristine brings into the conversation is simple:
Freedom may exist on the other side of the thing we are afraid to release.
Sometimes growth is not about adding another achievement, identity, strategy or answer.
Sometimes it begins with letting go.
Listen to this soulful conversation and ask yourself:
What am I still protecting that I may already have outgrown?
