The Jewish World Before Jesus

Turn one page from Malachi to Matthew and the furniture seems to have moved. Rome rules. Herod is king. Pharisees and Sadducees debate. Synagogues gather communities. Greek names and language appear everywhere. Yet the covenant story has not gone silent. This episode walks through the Jewish world that took shape under Alexander and his successors, the Maccabean crisis, the temple rededication remembered at Hanukkah, the Hasmonean dynasty, Roman rule, and Herod.
