365. How To Be Happier Every Day: 3 Simple Gratitude Habits That Actually Work
Hi Mamas, What if you could feel happier, less stressed, and more fulfilled without changing your circumstances, spending money, or adding another thing to your already overflowing to-do list? As busy working moms, we're constantly looking ahead to the next thing. When work slows down, when the kids get older, when we lose the weight, when the house is finally organized... THEN we'll be happy. But what if happiness isn't something we have to keep chasing? What if we could experience more happiness right now simply by appreciating the little moments of joy already happening around us? In today's episode, we're talking about the power of practicing gratitude and how developing a gratitude mindset can help you find more happiness, appreciate everyday moments, and live a more intentional, fulfilling life. I'm sharing how gratitude has become part of my daily prayer and meditation routine, a beautiful moment with my daughter that reminded me what really matters, and the story of a woman I've never met who completely changed how I think about finding joy. We're also talking about why our brains tend to focus on negative experiences, how gratitude can help us shift our perspective, and why being thankful for your life doesn't mean you have to stop wanting more. In This Episode, You'll Learn: How practicing gratitude can help you feel happier: Why noticing the good in your everyday life can change your perspective. Why we focus on the negative: Understanding negativity bias and how it influences what we remember about our day. How to find joy in ordinary moments: Learning to appreciate the little blessings we often overlook. Three simple daily gratitude habits: Easy ways to practice gratitude in the morning, throughout the day, and before bed. How to practice gratitude during difficult seasons: Finding meaning, strength, and appreciation without pretending everything is perfect. Why gratitude and ambition can coexist: How to appreciate the life you have while continuing to pursue your dreams and create a life you love. 3 Simple Gratitude Habits to Start Today Start your morning with gratitude. Before reaching for your phone or thinking about your to-do list, spend a minute appreciating your blessings. Instead of simply listing what you're thankful for, picture the moments and people who bring you joy. Start counting your daily joys. Throughout the day, notice the little things that make you smile. A beautiful sunrise, an unexpected call from your child, a kind gesture, or even that first sip of coffee. Acknowledge those moments instead of rushing past them. End your day remembering what went right. Before bed, think about three specific things that made your day better. Instead of replaying everything that went wrong or everything you didn't accomplish, give yourself the opportunity to appreciate what went right. Your Working Mom Reminder You can be grateful for the life you have and still want more. You can appreciate your career and still want to pursue something more fulfilling. You can love being a mom and still want time for yourself. You can be thankful for your blessings while continuing to dream, grow, and work toward your goals. Gratitude isn't about settling. It's about learning to appreciate where you are while working toward where you want to be. And sometimes the most meaningful moments in life are the ones we almost miss. 363. How To Have Difficult Conversations When You Feel Anxious
Hi Mamas, Have you ever had a difficult conversation you knew you needed to have, but kept putting it off because you were anxious about how it might go? Maybe it's talking to your boss about your workload, asking your husband for more help, addressing something with your teenager, or finally setting a boundary with someone in your life. And instead of having the conversation, you've already had it in your head about 50 times! You've rehearsed what you're going to say, imagined every possible reaction, and worked yourself up over something that hasn't even happened yet. Sound familiar, mama? I've been there! In this episode, I'm sharing practical tips to help you navigate difficult conversations, overcome communication anxiety, set healthy boundaries, and speak up with more confidence… both at work and at home. After years of struggling with difficult conversations myself, I've learned that confidence doesn't always come before the conversation. Sometimes it comes from realizing you can handle uncomfortable situations, even when things don't go exactly as planned. In this episode, we're talking about: How to calm your nerves before a difficult conversation. Why writing down your thoughts can help you communicate more clearly (and how I use ChatGPT to help!). The importance of knowing what you want to accomplish before speaking up. How to stop over-explaining and communicate with confidence. Why so many uncomfortable conversations are actually about setting healthy boundaries. How to manage your emotions when conversations don't go as expected. Why avoiding difficult conversations can lead to resentment and even bigger problems. I'm also sharing a personal experience from earlier in my corporate career that completely changed how I approach communication and leadership. 👉 And I want to hear how this week’s episode helped you! 362. Working Mom Mindset: Stop Avoiding Difficult Conversations - Choose Courage Over Comfort
Hi Mamas, Do you avoid difficult conversations because you're afraid of conflict, disappointing someone, or saying the wrong thing? Whether it's speaking up at work, asking your husband for more help, setting boundaries, or addressing something that's been bothering you, avoiding uncomfortable conversations can create more stress, resentment, and overwhelm. In today’s episode, we're talking about choosing courage over comfort and learning to stop letting fear hold you back. Inspired by Brené Brown's quote, “You can choose courage, or you can choose comfort, but you cannot choose both,” we'll talk about why avoiding uncomfortable situations doesn't always protect your peace and how small acts of courage can build confidence, strengthen relationships, and help you create a healthier work-life balance. In this episode, you'll learn: Why we avoid difficult conversations, even when we know they're necessary How avoiding conflict can actually increase stress and resentment The difference between intentionally letting something go and avoiding it out of fear Why confidence often comes after taking action How choosing courage can help you set boundaries and speak up for yourself Your Monday Mindset Challenge: Think about one thing you've been avoiding because it makes you uncomfortable. What's one small step you can take this week to choose courage over comfort? Remember, mama, you don't have to feel confident to take action. Sometimes confidence comes from proving to yourself that you can do hard things. Make sure to check out episode 363! 361. How To Forgive Without an Apology: Release Resentment & Find Peace
Hi Mamas, What if the person who hurt you never says, “I'm sorry”? Can you still forgive them? And maybe an even bigger question: Should you? As we head into the holiday season, I'm bringing back an episode from the Mom Wife Career Life archives that I think is worth hearing again… or maybe hearing for the very first time. Because the holidays have a way of bringing everything to the surface. Old relationships. Family tension. Hurt feelings. Resentment. Grief. Memories. And sometimes, anger we've been carrying around much longer than we realize. So today, we're talking about forgiveness without an apology. And mama, forgiveness does NOT mean pretending that what someone did was okay. It doesn't mean forgetting what happened. It doesn't mean abandoning your boundaries. And it doesn't necessarily mean letting someone back into your life. Sometimes forgiveness simply means deciding that you don't want to carry the pain anymore. In this episode, we're talking about how to forgive someone who hurt you even when they aren't sorry, why forgiveness doesn't require reconciliation, and how to begin releasing anger and resentment when you never received the closure you deserved. I'm also sharing a deeply personal part of my own story about my relationship with my dad, the anger I carried after he passed away, and how forgiveness eventually helped me release that resentment and find peace. We'll also talk about forgiving someone who is no longer here, forgiving a friendship you had to walk away from, and one of the hardest people we sometimes have to forgive: Ourselves. Because forgiveness isn't always about setting someone else free. Sometimes it's about finally setting yourself free. And at the end of the episode, I'm giving you a simple “Bless and Release” exercise you can try to help you acknowledge what you're carrying and begin letting some of it go. As you listen, I want you to ask yourself: What am I still carrying that I'm ready to put down? Maybe you're not ready to forgive today. That's okay. But maybe you're ready to stop giving something that happened in your past so much space in your present. And if you're heading into the holidays already feeling the pressure of everything that needs to get done, don't forget to grab my FREE Christmas Planning Made Simple Guide Inside, you'll find tools to help you organize your Christmas budget, gift list, activities, calendar and holiday plans so you can spend less time trying to remember everything and more time actually being present for the season. Grab your free copy using the link in the show notes. And make sure you come back next week because we're continuing this conversation by talking about something that often goes hand-in-hand with forgiveness: How to have difficult conversations. Because sometimes asking for forgiveness—or offering forgiveness—means having a conversation you've been avoiding. We'll talk about how to say what needs to be said, communicate how you're feeling, and navigate difficult conversations with the people you care about. Until then, mama, remember: Forgiveness doesn't erase the story. It changes how you carry it forward. 👉 And I want to hear what you’re moving forward with this week!
