Description

In the early hours of January 19th, 2025 Kerstin Gurtner died of hypothermia on Austria’s tallest mountain. Her boyfriend and climbing partner, Thomas Plamberger, maintains his version of events - that he left Kerstin behind to get help - but not everyone believed him. Kerstin’s death and the circumstances surrounding it launched a global discussion focused on the phenomenon of “alpine divorce”, and how trusting your partner can sometimes quite literally mean the difference between life and death.
