Their materials are temporary, their method excludes the Lord, and their motive is pride: “let us make a name for ourselves.” Babel shows us that unity without submission to God is not righteousness—it is organized rebellion. Pasted text Pasted text Pasted text Genesis 11 also shows us the mercy of God. Judgment scatters the nations and confuses their languages, but God immediately begins tracing a lineage that will ultimately point to Christ. And centuries later at Pentecost, the languages divided at Babel become the languages through which the gospel is proclaimed. So today, read Genesis 11 and remember: what pride fractures, God’s grace is able to redeem. Don’t build a name for yourself—trust the God who writes a better story than you ever could.
