Today’s reading takes us to Numbers 11, where Israel exposes the danger of being delivered by God but no longer satisfied with what God provides. They remember the flavors of Egypt but forget the chains, and their cravings become greater than their gratitude. Yet buried inside the chapter is a beautiful contrast: while Israel craves something for the flesh, Moses longs for the Spirit to rest upon all of God’s people. Pasted text Pasted text
Numbers 11 points us forward to Pentecost. Moses cries, “Oh, that all would receive the Spirit,” Joel later proclaims that promise, and Acts 2 shows its fulfillment as the Spirit is poured out upon believers. So today, read Numbers 11 and examine your craving: are you consumed with what you can get from God, or with what God wants to do in and through His people? May we stop feeding the flesh and start longing for the Spirit to work freely among us.
