Description
Methanol has been used for decades as a key building block for the chemical industry. Today, it is also emerging as one of the most promising enablers of the energy transition.
In the latest episode of The Next Episode podcast, Alexander Schulz, Technology Director at GasConTec (NEXTCHEM), discusses the growing role of methanol in decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping and aviation.
What makes methanol particularly interesting is its versatility. It can be produced through conventional routes, as well as from renewable feedstocks including captured CO₂, renewable hydrogen, biomass, biogas, and waste streams. Existing transport and storage infrastructure further support its potential for large-scale adoption.
The technologies to accelerate the transition already exist. The challenge now lies in scaling production, improving economics, and creating the right policy framework to support investment.
Listen to the full episode and discover why methanol could become one of the key molecules of the low-carbon economy.
