Description
Gregg Hunter says a membership nonprofit proves its worth by knowing its members' greatest threats and greatest needs, and then addressing them. Gregg is the President and CEO of Christian Camp and Conference Association, which serves more than 800 camps and conference centers. He has led CCCA since 2009.
Membership organizations live or die on perceived value. Too often, members keep paying dues without knowing why. Gregg shares how CCCA builds its strategy, tells stories that matter to its members, and speaks with one voice for hundreds of independent camps.
In this episode:
What one voice means when every member camp has its own brand, board, and story
Why CCCA surveys members every three years on their greatest threats and needs
What Gregg learned at Boeing about holding storytelling to a standard of perfection
Why knowing your audience decides whether a story connects
The three reasons camps renew: belonging, savings, and ways to connect
How a food service contract can save one member camp $92,000 a year
How roundtable discussions connect camp staff who work far from their peers
How CCCA spoke with one voice to the media after the tragedy at Camp Mystic
Why stories of changed lives come first
Why CCCA will not exploit someone's pain for its gain, a lesson from Gary Haugen of International Justice Mission
Why CCCA sees itself as a long haul movement, not a group chasing the latest thing
How core disciplines like marketing, finance, fundraising, and food service shape member training
Why setting annual priorities is like painting a picture
One storytelling habit and one strategy habit to borrow from CCCA's playbook
You will leave with a clearer way to prove your value to members, choose the stories that keep them coming back, and set priorities around what they need most.
