031 | Barnabás Iván – A conversation about staying uncomfortable, failing on purpose and creating space for others

In this episode 031 of the Offstage Podcast, recorded as part of our summer special series "Summer of Hip Hop," I sat down with Barnabás Iván from Hungary – on the very last day of the camp, right after his class. At just 24, Barnabás is already a dancer, teacher and founder who runs a dance school, his own performing career and a video production business at the same time. We start with his philosophy: it's not really about perfection, it's about never getting comfortable – because the moment things feel comfortable, they get boring. He talks about following his instinct, about the "I don't give a shit" mindset that frees him from worrying what everyone else thinks, and about where all of that comes from: an open home and a mother who is a celebrated dancer herself, who didn't push him but surprised him with a trip to Fairplay Dance Camp at twelve – and quietly watched whether he'd keep showing up. We get into leadership and what kind of man he wants to become, the breaking point COVID brought him and how losing Fairplay pushed him into new, uncomfortable spaces that turned everything around. He shares his honest take on the scene after COVID – how Europe realized its own quality – on the business side nobody talks about, and on what a long-term career really takes: a strong mental game, range, personality, and the courage to fail on purpose.
