The NBA’s American Star Problem: Why Wemby, Giannis & Jokic Are Taking Over

Ric Bucher asks whether American basketball has a star problem as Victor Wembanyama, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokić increasingly distinguish themselves as both elite players and compelling ambassadors for the NBA. Ric also revisits Team USA’s handling of Caitlin Clark, challenges the coverage of A’ja Wilson’s confrontation with an Indiana Fever fan, and explains why treating WNBA stars seriously means scrutinizing them just as aggressively as male professional athletes. Plus: Jalen Duren’s contract dispute, Anthony Edwards’ curious assessment of Jonathan Kuminga, Cade Cunningham’s lack of national attention and one provocative question for LeBron James: Why tell Philadelphia fans that the Knicks were the team he really wanted?
