A dramatized thriller. Names, characters, the airline and many details are fictional. Captain Rohan Mehta polishes his shoes the same way before every flight: left, then right, fifty strokes each. This morning he folds his daughter's crayon drawing into the pocket over his heart. Across Dubai, First Officer Samir Nasser irons his shirt twice, writes a letter by hand, deletes every photo on his phone, and leaves the key on the inside of the door. At gate F-12, a hundred and sixty-six strangers are going home — a plumber from Ashdod, a dentist from Haifa, a young mother with a teething baby, and a quiet man in 3C who notices everything. Flight 417 pushes back on time. The flight is normal for two hours and twenty minutes. Then, in a locked room the size of a closet, one of the two men up front reaches back toward the crash axe.
