Description
Were Prince Harry and Meghan Markle miserable in California before returning to Britain?
Former People editor Dan Wakeford says the Sussexes were “wildly unhappy” with how their lives in America had developed. Speaking on the Daily Beast’s Royalist podcast, Wakeford suggests Harry is happier back in Britain but questions whether Meghan shares that enthusiasm.
He argues that the couple have fundamentally different ambitions, with Harry drawn toward Britain and charitable work while Meghan remains interested in California and building a Hollywood-style lifestyle business. Wakeford says sources still describe the couple as very much in love, but questions whether love alone can resolve their disagreements about the future.
However, a friend of the Sussexes tells the Daily Mail a very different story, insisting Harry and
Meghan are delighted with their return, happy with their children's schools and optimistic about their security arrangements.
Meanwhile, Heat World claims Meghan believes she can give Catherine, Princess of Wales, “a run for her money” as she rebuilds her public profile in Britain. An unnamed source suggests Meghan intends to begin with carefully selected appearances before gradually increasing her visibility.
The Express is considerably less enthusiastic, with columnist Chris Riches questioning what purpose Harry and Meghan now serve following their return.
And there is more criticism of Meghan’s As Ever business. Journalist Alison Boshoff claims the brand’s holiday hampers are partly an attempt to clear unsold jam inventory, although no sales or inventory figures have been provided to substantiate that claim. Boshoff also questions whether Harry can complete his proposed Princess Diana documentary without cooperation from Diana’s closest friends and relatives.
Finally, William and Catherine are facing criticism of their own. Columnist Daniela Elser questions the couple’s carefully cultivated image as ordinary parents, contrasting Catherine’s comments about enjoying washing up with the Waleses’ access to luxury travel, including a royal helicopter reportedly worth $15 million. Elser argues that the couple’s relatable public image tells only part of the story of their extraordinarily privileged lives.
Questions this episode answers: Were Harry and Meghan unhappy living in America? Is Prince Harry happier in Britain than Meghan? Are the Sussexes considering returning to California? What do Harry and Meghan’s friends say about their marriage? Does Meghan want to compete with Kate Middleton? Why are critics questioning the Sussexes’ return to Britain? Is Meghan using holiday hampers to sell unsold jam? Could Harry’s Princess Diana documentary fall apart? Does Princess Catherine really enjoy washing dishes? And why is William and Kate’s $15 million helicopter attracting criticism?
