Police investigating string of robberies targeting women near banks in Northeast Philly

The KYW Newsradio All Local on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026 (midday edition): There are still dozens of canceled and delayed flights at the airport after a communications failure led to a ground stop and significant disruptions at several airports throughout the Northeast on Monday. Police are warning women to be vigilant when they go into or out of banks in Northeast Philadelphia. At least four women have been robbed near banks in the last two months, all of them in broad daylight. The old Philadelphia Police Department headquarters sits between two of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods: Chinatown and Old City. But the building, known as the Roundhouse, has been vacant for four years, despite efforts to imagine a new use. The new rail cars SEPTA bought in March have finally arrived in the Philadelphia area, but the transit agency said it may still take some time to put them into service.
