There Can Be No Peace Without Animal Liberation with Gary Yourofsky

Episode Description  Can humanity truly call itself peaceful while billions of animals continue to suffer for food, clothing, entertainment and profit?  In this special extended episode of Prove To Me That You’re Alive, NazareN sits down with legendary animal-rights activist and vegan educator Gary Yourofsky for one of the most meaningful and impactful conversations we've had on the podcast.  Gary takes us back to his beginnings in Michigan and the experiences that led him to confront humanity's relationship with animals and ultimately dedicate his life to animal liberation.  We discuss the true meaning of veganism and why Gary believes it should never be reduced to simply eating a plant-based diet. You don't have to agree with Gary or NazareN.  We simply ask that you listen with an open mind—and perhaps question some of the things society has taught us to consider normal.  About Gary Yourofsky  Gary Yourofsky is an American animal-rights activist and vegan educator who became one of the most recognizable voices in modern vegan advocacy. Born in Detroit and raised in Oak Park, Michigan, Yourofsky became vegan in 1996 and founded ADAPTT (Animals Deserve Absolute Protection Today and Tomorrow), advocating against the exploitation of animals for food, clothing, experimentation, entertainment and other purposes.  His activism has included both direct action and education. In 1997, Yourofsky participated in the release of 1,542 mink from a Canadian fur farm, an action for which he was later imprisoned in Canada. He subsequently devoted much of his activism to public speaking and education.  According to ADAPTT's biography, by January 2015 Yourofsky had delivered 2,660 lectures to more than 60,000 people at 186 schools, spanning 30 U.S. states as well as appearances in Israel. His widely circulated 2010 Georgia Tech lecture became especially influential online, introducing audiences around the world to his uncompromising arguments for veganism and animal liberation.  For Gary, veganism isn't simply about changing what we eat.
