Ukraine, Russia & the West: Is the War Entering Its Final Phase? | David Pyne

Can the West defeat Russia—or is the war in Ukraine approaching a geopolitical endgame? In this episode of Prove To Me That You’re Alive, NazareN welcomes back national security expert, military historian and geopolitical analyst David Pyne for an expansive conversation about the United States, Russia, Ukraine and the future of European security. The discussion examines diplomacy between Washington and Moscow, the possibility of a negotiated settlement to the Russia-Ukraine war, and the increasingly difficult human and military realities surrounding Ukrainian mobilization. Pyne and NazareN debate whether Ukraine—or even Europe acting collectively—could realistically prevail in a prolonged conventional conflict with Russia, and what a potential Russia-Europe confrontation in 2030 could mean for the continent. The conversation then goes deeper into history and grand strategy: Mackinder’s Heartland Theory, the strategic importance of Eurasia, Napoleon’s invasion of Russia, and whether aspects of Russia’s current approach can be compared with Mikhail Kutuzov’s strategy of allowing an adversary to exhaust its strength before attempting a decisive counterstroke. Could Russia be playing a much longer strategic game? Is Washington seriously pursuing peace? And are the enormous costs of the Ukraine war beginning to change the calculations of the United States and Europe? The episode concludes with a wider conversation about American history and political legacy, including Donald Trump, Charlie Kirk and September 11. About David Pyne: David T.
