Ep. - 1737 - ST. ELMO'S FIRE: THE TRUE STORY BEHIND THE BRAT PACK CLASSIC (PART TWO)

Carl Kurlander, co-writer of St. Elmo's Fire, returns for the second half of Kate’s conversation about the making of the 1985 Brat Pack classic. Carl reveals how close Madonna came to playing Jules, why a real-life friend refused to lend his name to Emilio Estevez's character, and the scientific embarrassment hidden in Rob Lowe's famous St. Elmo's Fire monologue. He sets the record straight on the night the "Brat Pack" was born and the article that haunted the cast for decades. Carl also shares the surprising true story behind John Parr's hit theme song, which was inspired by Paralympian Rick Hansen's Man in Motion tour, and how a poster shoot with a miserable cast became one of the most iconic images of the '80s. Plus, Carl takes us from Hollywood to the Clinton campaign, Saved by the Bell, and his second act as a professor and documentary filmmaker in Pittsburgh.
