Description

We live in a world of experts. Need financial advice? Find a planner. Tax issue? Hire a CPA. Struggle with marriage? See a counselor. With modern technology and AI, we can typically find a solution for almost any problem—but what happens when you encounter a problem human wisdom cannot answer? That is where we find King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel 2. The most powerful man in the world had everything—unlimited wealth, power, and fame—yet a dream left him sleepless and troubled, and his experts could not solve it. Like Tom Brady reflecting on his Super Bowl rings, you can have everything the world promises and still feel a deep soul-restlessness. The king's insecurity quickly turned to hostility, demanding his wise men tell him both the dream and its interpretation under penalty of death. But the experts confessed their limits: "No one can show it to the king except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh." When the execution decree reached Daniel, he responded not with panic but with prudence and faith, immediately calling his companions to prayer—because crisis demands community. And when God revealed the mystery, Daniel's first reaction wasn't to run to the king but to stop and sing praise: "Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might." How often do we celebrate an answered prayer or deposit the check, yet fail to praise the God who gave it? Stepping before Nebuchadnezzar, Daniel deflected all self-glory: "No wise men... can show to the king the mystery... but there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries." This is a fundamental truth—you cannot discover God on your own; He must reveal Himself to you as an act of divine grace. Think about marriage: you can only truly know your spouse's thoughts if she chooses to open her heart to you. How much more with an infinite God? We are completely in the dark unless He speaks, which is why we desperately need the Holy Spirit to illuminate His Word to our hearts. But Daniel's advocacy did not stop at revelation. As an innocent man risking his life, he stood as mediator between the angry king and the helpless wise men, sparing those who could not save themselves—and in that, he points us to a far better Mediator. Jesus Christ did what the pagan gods could not, coming down to dwell with man in the flesh. He stood in the stead of sinners and absorbed the just wrath of God on the cross so that wicked rebels like us could be spared. If you are searching, insecure, or running out of options, the bottle, another relationship, or more money will never satisfy. Only the God of the Bible can give your heart what it is looking for, because only He can reveal what our limited human wisdom cannot discover.
