Vertical Limit Review: A 2000's Masterpiece

Sebbo and Tobler dive into Vertical Limit, making the case it's a perfect, endlessly rewatchable disaster movie — great ensemble cast, genuine moral quandaries, and a title drop line that sums up the whole film. They break down standout moments like the opening rope-cutting scene, the helicopter rescue, and Montgomery Wick's backstory, plus a detour imagining how the movie got pitched as the ultimate "cocaine movie." They also answer YouTube questions on the best Entourage cameo and roles that would've been ruined by different casting, before setting up next week's pick: Goodfellas. 0:00 – Intro: hyped for Vertical Limit 1:35 – Prison Break algorithm shoutout & Martin McDonagh recommendations 3:23 – Shout-out: Steve Le Marquand & Last Train to Freo 5:40 – YouTube Q&A: Best Entourage cameo 8:29 – YouTube Q&A: Roles that would've been ruined by different casting (Aragorn, Neo) 14:19 – Budget & box office guesses 17:09 – Opening thoughts: pacing, characters & moral quandaries 23:12 – The opening scene & cutting the rope 27:00 – Base camp & meeting the cast 33:28 – The "cocaine movie" bit 38:10 – Skip stays behind, the climb begins 39:38 – Avalanche & Tom's fall 40:00 – The helicopter rescue scene 42:02 – Peter & Annie's reconciliation 43:20 – Cyril, Monique & the near-death sequence 47:29 – Montgomery Wick's backstory reveal 48:13 – The "vertical limit" line 49:34 – Tom's death & the final rescue push 52:19 – Pete's ledge jump & saving Annie 53:52 – The ending & confrontation with Paxton 56:32 – Wrap-up & closing montage 58:56 – Next up: Goodfellas Hosted on Acast.
