Jacob 4:14 - Looking Unto Christ, Not Beyond the Mark

Jacob 4:14 - "But behold, the Jews were a stiffnecked people; and they despised the words of plainness, and killed the prophets, and sought for things that they could not understand. Wherefore, because of their blindness, which blindness came by looking beyond the mark, they must needs fall; for God hath taken away his plainness from them, and delivered unto them many things which they cannot understand, because they desired it. And because they desired it God hath done it, that they may stumble." Elder Dale G. Renlund - "Jacob cautioned that unfortunate things happen when we ask for things we should not. He foretold that the people in Jerusalem would seek 'for things that they could not understand,' look 'beyond the mark,' and completely overlook the Savior of the world. They stumbled because they asked for things they would not and could not understand." Elder Dale G. Renlund - “In our day, we must also guard against spiritual hyperopia [farsightedness or the ability to see things before your eyes]. If we succumb to it, we can miss the blessings that come from Jesus Christ…Thinking that there is a need for something beyond what Jesus Christ offers diminishes the scope and power of His infinite Atonement in our lives…What are some things that are close at hand and easily accessible that we might take for granted or overlook because we're looking beyond the mark? We may be casual about Church attendance, prayer, and scripture study. We may underestimate the blessing of having a living prophet on the earth to guide us because he is so familiar and his words are so accessible.”  Seek this Jesus - A Book of Mormon Daily Podcast invites you to discover the joy and guidance that comes from studying the Book of Mormon everyday.
