GENIUS ALERT ft. Gabe Liedman - The Real World: Seattle S7E15 “Irene Calls It Quits”

Lara and Carey welcome Emmy Award-winning writer, comedian, and native Philadelphian Gabe Liedman to the SUP Stu. They discuss Carey and Gabe’s origin story, the most lowkey home invasion in history, the eternal connection between Bonvoy and Gay, the retail-to-TRL writer pipeline, and more. Then Gabe leads the time loop back to 1998 Seattle, where we lay our scene: the immortal seventh season of the Real World, episode 15 "Irene Calls it Quits." Nearing the end of their tenure on the pier, Janet, Nathan, David, Rebecca, Stephen and Lindsay’s bond is threatened by the Lyme-wrought unraveling of Irene. Plagued by her illness, Irene quits her job at the radio and decides, after consulting her relaxation therapist, the best thing she can do is leave the show. Blindsided, the group reels from this 180; Janet reveals a shocking twist and Stephen’s annoyance with Irene mounts to a fever pitch. After several soliloquies, a missing stuffed animal, and a final breakfast, Irene departs but not before some tense parting words with Stephen… which leads to a waterlogged plush dog and a closeted gay slap heard ‘round the world.
