Description
We grew up riding bikes, staying out until the streetlights came on, sneaking out past curfew, and spending entire days with friends without our parents knowing our every move.
Today? We're tracking our kids' locations, questioning sleepovers, worrying about cell phones, and sometimes struggling to let them walk down the street alone.
So what's changed? Is the world really more dangerous, or have we become a generation of parents who are too afraid to let go?
In this episode of She's Not Done, Andrea and Kouelee tackle one of the hardest questions in modern parenting: Are we protecting our children, or are we preventing them from learning how to live without us?
Andrea shares what it's like raising two teenage daughters, setting curfews, navigating boyfriends, cell phones, sleepovers, and giving her girls independence. Kouelee opens up about her fears as a mom of younger daughters and wonders whether being overly protective might actually create more anxiety.
We discuss:
Whether kids should wait until eighth grade for their first phone
Location tracking: safety tool or parental control?
Whether strict curfews create safer teenagers or better liars
Why kids today spend more time on screens and less time outside
The uncomfortable conversations parents need to have about sex, alcohol, and drugs
Sleepovers, teenage relationships, and trusting our children's judgment
Whether we're raising an anxious generation
Why allowing kids to make mistakes might be one of the most important parts of parenting
The responsibility we sometimes place on older siblings
The big question: If we never let our kids experience the world without us, how will they ever learn to navigate it?
We want to hear from you! Are you a strict parent, or do you believe kids need more freedom? What age is appropriate for cell phones, sleepovers, dating, and staying out late?
