Shivaji's Mughal Spy Network and the Dabirs

While Shivaji Maharaj is often remembered for his military genius and naval innovations, his most formidable weapon was arguably an intelligence network that operated deep within the heart of the Mughal Empire. In this episode, Lucas and Luna explore the world of the Dabirs, Shivaji’s elite spies who navigated the treacherous politics of Aurangzeb’s court in Agra and the administrative centers of the Deccan. We look at how these agents, led by figures like Bahirji Naik and Prahlad Niraji, gathered critical information not just about troop movements, but about the political fractures within the Mughal hierarchy itself. The conversation examines specific cases where Dabir intelligence allowed Shivaji to execute the daring escape from Agra in 1660 and later to negotiate treaties from a position of strength. By understanding the mechanics of the Dabir system, we see how Shivaji built a state that was as intellectually agile as it was militarily fierce, turning information into power long before the modern era of espionage. #ShivajiMaharaj #MughalEmpire #DabirSpyNetwork #Aurangzeb #BahirjiNaik #PrahladNiraji #AgraFortEscape #MarathaHistory #IntelligenceOps #DeccanPolitics #HindaviSwarajya #Chhatrapati #17thCenturyIndia #MilitaryStrategy #EspionageHistory #SouthAsianHistory #FexingoHistory #HistoryPodcast Keep every episode free: buymeacoffee.com/fexingo
