Description
Standing in the heart of the French Quarter, the Gardette-LePretre House is the setting for one of New Orleans’ most gruesome legends: the massacre at the Sultan’s Palace. Following the Civil War, an impoverished planter reportedly leased the grand mansion to a secretive Ottoman prince who arrived with armed guards, veiled women, and stolen royal gold—only for neighbors to later discover blood trickling down the front steps. Police found the entire retinue butchered inside and the prince himself buried alive in the courtyard, his hand clawing desperately through the dirt. In this episode of Southern Ghost Stories, Allen Sircy explores the bloody legend of the Sultan's Palace, from ruthless overseas assassins to the shadowy phantom said to still linger on its wrought-iron balconies.
