Jobs I’m terrible at

Description

Send us Fan Mail In this episode, I’m talking about letting go of the jobs you’re bad at. As moms, we try to do all the jobs and all the tasks, and sometimes admitting you’re just terrible at something—and making peace with it—is the most freeing thing you can do. I share the saga of trying to figure out what to get my indecisive 15-year-old for his birthday, and how handing the whole thing over to my husband (“let men talk to men”) felt amazing. Not because I failed, but because I finally realized it just wasn’t my job. I also talk about leaving the heavy furniture assembly to my husband, being terrible at remembering the little details that make a meal special (so many times I’ve forgotten the sour cream for the borscht), and finally admitting, after 15 years, that I’m not good at long bedtime routines—so I’m making them shorter and shorter. I also get honest about my lack of patience, my snoopiness (of course I’m snoopy, I’m Russian—that’s how I care), and how being controlling is really just me being very, very good at caring… sometimes too good. And I admit my podcast isn’t the fanciest or most polished, but I’ve been showing up consistently for six years, and that’s my strength. Really, this episode is about allowing yourself to be terrible at certain jobs. You can’t be good at all of them, and honestly, it’s so much easier to laugh about your flaws than to keep struggling with them. Support the show
