Description
The Woman Who Ate Breakfast in a Locked, Dark Diner
A warm plate of short stack and bacon appeared in the window of a diner that had been closed, dark, and without electricity for over a year - the syrup bottle and a four-inch warm fog circle on the glass the only signs someone had been there. Who cooked breakfast inside a locked, powerless building and left no trace of entry or exit?
In this episode, you will hear the sequence of events, the people involved, and the odd physical evidence left at Patsy's diner that morning, leading to a single, baffling question: how was anyone inside and able to lock the doors from both sides?
Person: Patricia Moen (Patsy)
Date: December 9, 2011
Location: Patsy's diner, Orchard Avenue, Harwick
Person: April Gallagher
Event: Plate of short stack, two strips of bacon, bottle of syrup, and coffee found warm in window
- The diner had been closed since October 2010 and dark since October 2011 with no electricity after October 2011.
- The plate seen through the window included a short stack, two strips of bacon, a small bottle of syrup, and what appeared to be a cup of coffee.
- The glass had a small fogged circle about four inches wide that was still warm when seen by Dean Stewart.
- The rear door was bolted from the inside with a slide bolt and the front deadbolt was engaged from the outside with a key; no windows were broken.
- The only documented key holder, nephew Carl Moen, confirmed his key was on his kitchen counter in Columbus, Ohio, and he had not been to Harwick in five months.
