Description
Street Fighter (2026) is a BAD movie... but is it so bad it's actually FUN?! Quinten, Caleb and Oz are breaking down the new live-action Street Fighter movie in a FULL SPOILER review, including Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, the wild casting, excellent fights, messy storylines and everything this Capcom video game adaptation gets right and wrong.
All three of us agree: Street Fighter (2026) is a bad movie. But two of us still had a surprisingly good time watching it! How does that happen?
FULL STREET FIGHTER (2026) SPOILERS THROUGHOUT!
STREET FIGHTER 2026 MOVIE REVIEW
The Street Fighter franchise is legendary for its iconic fighters, special moves and outrageous battles. Unfortunately, turning that energy into a good live-action movie is another matter.
In this SuperHero Homies episode, we discuss:
Roman Reigns as Akuma and Cody Rhodes as Guile
The best and worst casting choices
Ryu, Ken and Akuma's storyline
Chun-Li and M. Bison's storyline
The movie's best fight scenes and video game-inspired action
Confusing plot threads and unsatisfying conclusions
Cinematography, soundtrack and visual style
Whether Street Fighter fans will enjoy this adaptation
ROMAN REIGNS AS AKUMA & CODY RHODES AS GUILE
WWE fans have more than one reason to check out this movie! Roman Reigns plays Akuma, while Cody Rhodes takes on Guile, and our reactions to those performances couldn't be more different.
We were pleasantly surprised by Akuma, one of the film's standout interpretations. Cody Rhodes' bizarre version of Guile, on the other hand, left us with plenty of questions. We also praise the casting of Chun-Li and Dhalsim while questioning some of the choices surrounding M. Bison.
Which Street Fighter character was adapted best? Which casting decision was the most baffling?
THE FIGHT SCENES ACTUALLY DELIVER!
For all its flaws, Street Fighter knows how to throw down. The action is cartoonish, colorful and gloriously over-the-top, just like the Capcom fighting games. Some fights are genuinely excellent, and the movie deserves credit for embracing the franchise's ridiculous energy rather than trying to make everything realistic.
GREAT IDEAS, MESSY STORYTELLING
The movie splits its attention among several plots, and they don't all work. The main Ryu, Ken and Akuma storyline is simple, easy to follow and entertaining. The Chun-Li and M. Bison storyline? Not so much.
Some character arcs feel unfinished, some story choices barely make sense, and the movie struggles to bring its many threads together. The cinematography is similarly uneven: a few shots are genuinely impressive, while others are baffling. Even the soundtrack swings between fun and painfully out of place.
SO BAD IT'S GOOD?
This is the big debate. We all recognize Street Fighter (2026) as a deeply flawed video game movie, but two of us found real entertainment in its ridiculous action, memorable moments and occasional flashes of brilliance.
If you love Street Fighter, Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Akuma, Guile and the larger Capcom universe, there may be enough here to enjoy. But is that enough to recommend the film?
