Foods to Avoid | How to Eat to Live, Book One, Chapter 32
On October 7th, the birth anniversary of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad, the Wednesday Evening Ministry Class opened Foods to Avoid from How to Eat to Live, Book One.
The Messenger opens the chapter by setting the order straight: “We should not be asking questions about what kind of foods to eat as much as we should be trying to eat one meal a day. This is where good health and the prolongation of life come from.”
In this class, Brother Minister Jason Fareed breaks down:
Why one meal a day comes before the menu, and what “Of this I can assure you from self-experience” teaches us about a Messenger who lived what he taught
How long we could live if we trained our stomachs, and the meaning of Methuselah’s 969 years
The scavengers of the sea, and why the Messenger calls the catfish “the pig of the water”
How to identify stale fish, beginning with the Messenger’s own test: “When food smells like it is spoiled, we should not eat it.”
The divinely prohibited flesh of the swine, which we are not to eat, touch, or even smell
Doing for self: our own farms, our own food, and refusing to take our enemies for our guides
We also honor Sister Clara Muhammad, the Messenger’s strong supporter and a perfect example of the M.G.T.
Foods to avoid are physical and spiritual. Avoid the scavengers, the swine, and the poison in our food, and just as importantly, avoid wrong mental food and guidance from those who do not love you.
