Description
On this episode of the Texas Outlaw Running Talk Show, Aaron is joined by Texas Outlaw Running Hybrid Race Director Sarah Scott for another edition of Training Lab.
Sarah breaks down several core principles that can make the difference between simply having a training plan and actually following through with it.
They talk about accountability, maintaining the right attitude when training gets uncomfortable, and why runners have to take ownership of the work even when nobody else is watching.
The conversation also gets into integrity in training — doing the workout you said you were going to do, being honest about your effort, taking recovery and nutrition seriously, and building habits that hold up even when a coach or training partner isn’t there.
Sarah also explains why progress is rarely linear. Good weeks, bad weeks, injuries, plateaus, fatigue, and recovery are all part of improving as a runner. A temporary slowdown doesn’t necessarily mean your training isn’t working — sometimes your body simply needs time to adapt to a new level of fitness.
Whether you’re training for your first 5K, preparing for an ultra, coaching athletes, or simply trying to become more consistent, these principles apply at every level.
