Steady Hearts In Unsteady Times

Description

Drop us a note about the podcast. Worry and envy are easy habits to pick up when the world feels like it’s sliding off the rails, but they make terrible masters. We start with Psalm 37 and let it speak plainly: trust the Lord, do good, commit your work, and refuse the kind of anger that turns into harm. That thread of steady faith carries through everything else, from the way we talk to the way we lead our homes. Next we read marriage verses from 1 Corinthians 7 and get practical about responsibility, self-control, and the discipline of agreement. I use a Louis L’Amour passage to paint a picture of complementary work and the quiet strength of duty, then I push back on the idea that a marriage can thrive when nobody is expected to carry any weight. From there we zoom out to the church with 1 Corinthians 12 and 13: different gifts, one body, and love as the measuring stick. If our “right answers” don’t produce patience, kindness, and humility, we’re just making noise. We also talk about learning to control our tongues, because a lot of our trouble starts there. Then we shift into remembrance and civic reflection: a September 11 roll call, a Medal of Honor highlight, and a full reading of Abraham Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address, one of the clearest calls to charity and firmness our country has ever heard. I end with a hard question: what are we willing to risk, endure, or give up for God, for our families, and for the future?
