Gethsemane isn’t just a garden, it’s an oil press. Once you see that, Jesus praying three times stops feeling like a repeated detail and starts reading like a deliberate descent under increasing weight. I walk through how ancient olive oil was made: crushing the fruit into pulp, stacking it in pressing baskets, then letting the beam come down light, heavier, and heaviest until the oil finally ran out. That’s the backdrop for the worst night of Jesus’ life, and it reshapes how I understand my own hard seasons.
We move through Matthew 26 prayer by prayer, from “not my will” to “I’ll drink the cup,” all the way to the final surrender where there are no new words, only settled obedience. Luke 22:44 adds the intensity, where the pressure is so heavy that sweat becomes like blood. Then I connect each pressing to what it produces: oil that brings light, oil that feeds families, and oil that reaches dirty, street-level needs. The message is simple but piercing: Jesus stays under every stone so there will be enough oil for everyone, including you on your worst day.
I also dig into Exodus 30 and the anointing oil, because “Christ” means the Anointed One, and anointing starts with crushing. If you feel like you’re under a first stone, second stone, or third stone season, I speak directly to each place and remind you of Isaiah 53:5 and this anchor truth: you’re standing in a garden Jesus already knelt in.
