#783 – AI Meets the Jobsite: Kipp Ivey from Augmenta on the Future of Construction

What happens when artificial intelligence moves beyond words and images and starts understanding the physical world we actually build? Kipp Ivey from Augmenta joins The Construction Life to talk about how spatial AI is changing the way buildings are designed, coordinated and constructed—and what that could mean for contractors and tradespeople. Augmenta is pushing AI into the physical world, using spatial intelligence to help make construction faster, more efficient, less expensive and more sustainable. Its technology has already been used across nearly 100 buildings, including critical facilities such as data centers, schools and healthcare projects. But Kipp brings a perspective that goes far beyond technology. A third-generation sheet metal worker, Kipp studied computer science before entering his family trade and eventually moving into operations leadership. Today, he combines that technical background with real-world construction experience to help contractors understand, implement and actually use AI in their businesses. We get into the big question facing the industry: Is AI here to replace construction workers, or can it make the people already doing the work better? We discuss the gap between technology companies developing AI and the contractors who have to trust it enough to put it into practice. We talk about adoption, education, implementation and why understanding the jobsite is just as important as understanding the technology. From sheet metal and field experience to spatial AI and the rapidly changing world of construction technology, Kipp gives us a look at where the industry could be headed—and why contractors need to start paying attention now.
