Description
We've been told that cultivating fierce independence in our daughters is the path to their success and protection.
But what if that's completely wrong?
What if the Bible actually points us toward something radically different?
In our modern Western culture, we've bought into the idea that the ultimate goal for raising daughters is to make them fiercely independent from men, from family, from everyone. The thinking goes that if we don't, they'll be vulnerable and taken advantage of.
But Scripture tells a completely different story.
When you look at peak daughterhood in the Bible, from Ruth to Esther to Tamar, you don't see fierce independence being cultivated. You see something else entirely: fierce loyalty.
This isn't about making women vulnerable or unprotected. It's about understanding God's design for how daughters are protected and how they thrive within the family team structure.
In this episode, April and I unpack what it looks like to cultivate fierce loyalty instead of fierce independence in your daughters, why this is actually MORE protective (not less), and how this plays out practically in family life.
April shares her own story of growing up with a father who cultivated this kind of loyalty in her heart, and how that transferred into our marriage and family in such a beautiful, stabilizing way.
We also dive into the book of Ruth (which uses the word "daughter" more than any other book in the Bible) to see how God protects vulnerable women not through independence, but through family loyalty and covenant relationships.
If you're raising daughters, this conversation will challenge everything you've been taught and give you a biblical vision for what you're actually cultivating in their hearts.
