Description
Portugal protests stay peaceful, meet Ventura & cops rescue snake plus weather & currency
On Monday 19th October 2026, Carl Munson’s Good Morning Portugal! news reports widespread weekend protests across Lisbon, Porto and other cities over rising costs and the housing crisis, with calls for better wages, improved public services, rent caps and an end to speculative investment.
The movement, backed by several opposition parties, plans a national day of action in November, and Carl notes that protests have so far remained peaceful compared with scenes from France. Porto’s housing protests have now entered their tenth day amid communication issues with police, while Chega admits a deficit to finance an emergency housing plan.
Other headlines include the Chega leader addressing the International Club of Portugal on 22 October, a strong London turnout of people interested in moving to Portugal, a €50 million Barraqueiro investment in 283 electric vehicles and charging points projected to cut 8,000 tonnes of CO₂ a year, and GNR officers rescuing a snake from protective netting.
Lisbon is forecast at 25°C.
