Description
What if some of the qualities you're most proud of; your ambition, work ethic, independence, relentless drive, even your ability to accomplish extraordinary things, didn't begin entirely as ambition?
What if achievement became one of the ways you learned to feel seen, safe, valued, or loved?
In this solo episode of the InspirED Podcast, Andrea De La Cerda explores a question that has become increasingly personal for her: How much of our ambition comes from genuine desire, and how much comes from trying to prove that we're worthy?
This isn't an argument that high achievement is inherently unhealthy, or that every ambitious person is responding to trauma. Andrea examines the important distinction between healthy striving and the kind of perfectionism that makes our identity dependent upon what we accomplish.
Drawing from research on parental expectations, perfectionism, adverse childhood experiences, and achievement culture, Andrea invites listeners to consider what they would pursue if they weren't trying to impress anyone, what success would look like if nobody were watching, and whether they can separate the desire to create extraordinary things from the need for those things to prove their worth.
Because the goal isn't to stop achieving.
It's to stop auditioning for your own worth.
