One site logged 409,000 direct visits in a month; 198 of them engaged. Then the harder lesson: a 0.72 correlation between AI mentions and direct traffic that looked like proof — until shuffled dates matched it and the relationship moved between halves of the timeline. Any chart tested hundreds of ways will find a 0.72 somewhere. The Move: stop asking the dashboard and start asking the customer. The one attribution a bot can't inflate, and a lucky correlation can't fake, is a new customer telling you, in their own words, how they found you.
