Description
Did you know most Halloween costumes are made from plastic-based materials and often get worn just once? Spooky, and not in a fun way.
In this Halloween special of The Lexy Show, sustainable fashion advocate Lexy Silverstein is proving that you don't need a brand-new costume to serve a killer look. Dressed in her own clown costume, Lexy shares her favorite ways to celebrate Halloween without creating a fast fashion nightmare.
From shopping your own closet and thrifting statement pieces to renting costumes and repurposing accessories, Lexy breaks down how to get creative without spending a fortune or buying something you'll never wear again.
One of the easiest ways to make Halloween more sustainable? Swapping instead of shopping. Lexy discusses how exchanging costumes with friends can keep perfectly good outfits out of landfills while giving everyone something new to wear. She's taking that idea even further with The Ultimate Halloween Swap, a free, community-driven initiative encouraging people to give their old costumes a second life. Following a successful 2025 pilot that collected approximately 200 costumes, the initiative has expanded in 2026 with participating locations across California and Maryland. Through November 15, families and Halloween lovers can donate costumes they no longer need and find something new to them, all without spending a dime. The idea is simple: Give what you have. Find what you need.
Whether you've had your Halloween costume planned since August or you're scrambling for something to wear on October 31, this episode is full of inspiration, laughs and a reminder that the best costumes don't have to come in a plastic bag.
