The Life N Times Podcast #86 Nolan Wells Did Not Drown
On the heels of new information in the Nolan Wells case, we sit down and talk through what the independent autopsies have changed for us. From our point of view, the biggest thing is simple the drowning explanation no longer feels like something people should be expected to accept without question. The findings have raised even more concerns, and the bruising documented on his body only adds to the questions surrounding what actually happened.
That conversation leads us into something much more personal, what it means to grow up as a Black man and be taught from a young age that survival comes first. We talk about the rules we were raised with, the situations we were told to avoid, the way we learned to read a room, watch our surroundings, stay aware of who we were around, and understand that being careless can come with consequences that other people may never have to think about.
We also get into the mental side of that reality. Constantly being alert, constantly calculating risk, and constantly feeling like you have to protect yourself takes a toll. At the same time, we talk about how Black life cannot only be represented through pain and trauma. There is also joy, family, ambition, creativity, success, community, and people building real things every day. That side of the story deserves just as much attention.
From there, we shift into AI and how quickly it is becoming part of everyday life. We talk about why these tools can be useful, why people still need to verify what they are being told, and why human judgment matters even more when technology can sound confident while still being wrong.
We close out the episode with the economy and the pressure people are feeling in real life, groceries, gas, housing, healthcare, and the overall cost of living. Regardless of what people hear in speeches or headlines, most people judge the economy by what happens when they open their bank account, go to the store, or pay their bills.
