Description
In the first session of The Love Chapter, Father Reid starts digging into 1 Corinthians 13, probably the most familiar passage in the New Testament and one a lot of us have misunderstood.
You’ve likely heard it read at a wedding. But Paul wasn’t writing about romance. He was writing to a church in Corinth that was a bit of a mess: divided, proud, arguing over spiritual gifts and who ranked where, and not agreeing on what faithful living even looked like.
Father Reid puts the chapter back in that setting and shows why it sits exactly where it does. It’s wedged in between Paul’s talk about gifts, worship, and life in the Body of Christ, and it isn’t a sweet little pause in the middle of all that. It’s the center of his whole argument.
This first lecture kicks off the eight-part series. We look at what the Bible means by love, what agape is and why it matters, and Paul’s bold claim that knowledge, eloquence, faith, sacrifice, and every spiritual gift add up to nothing if love isn’t there.
And before we get to “love is patient” and “love is kind,” Father Reid asks something more basic. What kind of love is Paul talking about, and what would it take for us to actually live it?
