Send us Fan Mail Can a man lose everything to addiction, spend years behind bars, and still find his way back to a life of purpose? In this powerful episode of The Men of the House Podcast, I sit down with Wesley, better known as "Wedo" from Recover with Wedo, to share an unfiltered story of heroin addiction, methamphetamine, state and federal prison, personal accountability, faith, and redemption. Growing up in a small East Texas town, Wesley's life began far from the prison walls that would eventually become all too familiar. Raised in a working family and serving as an altar boy, he never imagined the path his life would take. But bad influences, juvenile trouble, and a stint in a youth correctional boot camp were only the beginning. A move to West Dallas, intended to give Wesley a fresh start with his father, instead introduced him to a family environment where selling and using drugs became part of everyday life. What began with marijuana escalated into methamphetamine and eventually heroin, known on the streets as "chiva." Addiction didn't just take Wesley's freedom. It devastated his relationships, destroyed trust, and eventually consumed much of his family. As his heroin dependence intensified, Wesley found himself stealing to support his addiction, losing the trust of those closest to him, and ultimately facing multiple prison sentences. One defining moment came when his entire family ended up in handcuffs in their front yard. But Wesley's greatest turning point didn't come from being arrested. It came from being forced to confront himself. While incarcerated, an older Mexican Mafia member challenged Wesley's fixation on the person who had informed on him, reminding him that his own choices had put him behind bars. That conversation planted a seed of accountability that would eventually change his life. Later, after initially rejecting an opportunity to participate in a prison-based program, Wesley gave it another chance. What followed was a deeply personal spiritual transformation. Through faith, humility, and the love of Jesus Christ, Wesley began confronting the person he had become and discovering the man he wanted to be. Determined to build a different future, he earned certifications in plumbing and welding while incarcerated, preparing himself for a life beyond prison. Released in 2024, Wesley has spent his freedom proving that his past does not have to determine his future. Today, he has steady employment, a vehicle, a home, and a family. More importantly, he has found purpose in sharing his testimony, supporting others struggling with addiction, and reminding people that recovery and redemption are possible. In this conversation, we explore: How childhood influences and environment can shape the road toward addiction The devastating consequences of methamphetamine and heroin dependence How addiction can destroy trust and impact entire families The realities of state and federal incarceration Why personal accountability is essential to lasting change How faith and prison rehabilitation helped Wesley rebuild his life The challenges of reentry into society after prison Why hope, community, and second chances matter in addiction recovery This episode isn't about glorifying prison life or minimizing the consequences of addiction. It's about understanding the human being behind the mistakes and recognizing the possibility of transformation. Because sometimes the greatest freedom isn't walking out of prison. It's finally breaking free from the person you used to be. Whether you're battling addiction, supporting someone in recovery, rebuilding your life after incarceration, or simply looking for proof that people can change, Wesley's testimony is a reminder that there is always HOPE.
