It’s an Exorcist overload every Friday for HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST 4 and we made a last minute decision to merge the next two Exorcist films into one conversation for our first ever DOUBLE FEATURE because, as it turns out from the weird backstory we tell in the episode, EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING and DOMINION: PREQUEL TO THE EXORCIST are kind of sort of pretty much the same movie with some casting and storyline differences. The former is directed by Renny Harlin and the latter is actually the film that was initially made by Paul Schrader. The studio brought in Renny after test audiences complained about the Schrader cut and that’s what hit the theaters. The following year, 2005, we get Schrader’s version directly to DVD. There’s ups and downs and painful moments in both versions but which one edges the other out? Also, if you like multiple movie clips played at the exact same time then this is your show. HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST 4 keeps on chuggin’ with plenty more to go and we got our most BRUTAL selection for our THRILLER THURSDAYS WITH VINCENT PRICE. Up to now, the Master of the Macabre has set us up melodramatically for climactic shock moments but in this film loosely based on the real life atrocities committed by Matthew Hopkins in 17th century England, we get shock after shock in this pretty hardcore movie for it’s time. Vincent’s portrayal of Hopkins is so vile that you may revel in what eventually comes to him but you’ll never be the same again. These movies are pretty easy to find online and Prime, last we checked, has all the Vincent Price movies that we’re discussing. Every Wednesday for HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST 4 we offer up some of our favorite horror camp with HAMMER HORROR HUMPDAYS. It’s practically a Projectors tradition so today we got a wild one with some strange plotting and some shockingly ineffective characters with the exception of one though he isn’t quite so clutch when it really counts. We’re talking the awesomeley titled THE DEVIL RIDES OUT from 1968. It stars our boy Christopher Lee and it’s actually a strange coincidence that he can suddenly put to use all of his counter-occult knowledge when he stumbles upon his nephew in the thrall of a satanic cult. Spells, spiders and Angels of Death with a special cameo appearance by the Fallen Angel himself. I wonder what the charcuterie table looks like at the child sacrifice? The thing about TRANSFORMATION TUESDAYS is that things can get quite tragic and this iconic Cronenberg re-make of a 1950s horror rivals any cinematic tragedy in the history of film. What else could we be discussing but the 1986 body horror classic THE FLY from 1986? Seth Brundle has invented teleportation but a drunken accident resulted in his genes merging with a common house insect. It’s no thrill watching him fall apart into a hideous final form but the emotions feel very real. It’s just too bad about that baboon’s brother. If you haven’t seen this 80s hit then you’re missing out. Just don’t be mad at me when you’re feeling all melancholic afterwards. That’s the price of being a film buff. It’s HALLOWEEN HUMPFEST ONCE AGAIN and in the classic style so each weekday is a fun-ass theme and this 3rd week of HERE THERE BE MONSTER MONDAYS is actually fun-ass. It evokes a myriad of emotions, actually, and it does so very impressively. Makes sense since this monster movie is directed by Oscar winner Bong Joon Ho. We’re talking his crossover Korean hit “THE HOST” from 2006. The hubris of man strikes again as military scientists dump chemicals into the Han river, four years later something is crawling out of it, eating people and kidnapping children. This bumbling family must do what it takes to get their youngest back and no “virus” or lobotomizing will get in the way but they might fuck some things up along the way. The monster is only the symptom in this unique Korean Kaiju story. Go find it and then come and find us, again, and we can talk about it together.
