Episode 13 - Rich or Wealthy?

Ask anybody whether rich and wealthy are different and they’ll say yes — then go quiet when you ask how. The words began in different places. Rich is Old English for powerful: how much you’ve got, measured against other people. Wealth comes from wele — well-being, as in commonwealth: how well you’re set up, measured against your own life.
