From A Glossary of the People, Places, and Events of Alkyon Necromancy— Widely considered taboo across the nations of Alkyon, necromancy is understood by most to refer specifically to the reanimation of the dead, and is thought of as a perversion of the natural order of life and death. However, ancient scholars contend that necromantic magic is merely the animation or vitalization of any organic matter through magical means—that is to say, that from a magical standpoint there is no meaningful difference between reanimating a dead body or, for instance, granting life or sentience to plant matter. Due to Denorian restrictions on the practice and study of necromantic magic, little research has been done to investigate this ancient theory.
