Truth Unveiled with Ralph

I've learned to notice that little sound people make right before they say "I'm fine." I've sat behind the same kind of desk for 30 years, and I see the folder every time, bills piling up, accounts quietly drained, stress nobody mentioned out loud. We walk into church and do the exact same thing. Somebody taught us that protecting the room matters more than telling the truth. Watch the full episode Read the blog post This week I read straight through Psalm 13 and Psalm 88 to show that God kept the hard songs in his own hymnbook. The Bible is full of hymns that are really just complaints. David does four things in six verses: he speaks straight to God, tells him the truth, asks for something specific, then remembers who God is. Psalm 88 never gets there. It ends in total darkness, and God left it that way on purpose. That means you're allowed to bring your own messy folder to him. Lament isn't weak. It's faith. It means you still believe somebody is listening. I keep the response simple. Say one true sentence out loud. Write it in a notebook. Tell a friend. If you're still in the dark tomorrow, come back and say it again. God wrote these songs himself, so he can handle your anger and your grief. He even kept a psalm that ends in darkness in the hymnal, so no honest sufferer would ever have to fake it. We can stop performing fine. We can tell God the truth and still call it worship. We turn honest prayers into press releases, tidy and technically true, with the blood wiped off. God kept the raw, angry laments in scripture on purpose, so we're allowed to bring the same kind of prayer. I use David's four moves when I pray: speak straight to God, tell him the truth, ask for something specific, then remember who he is. Stop trying to fix people so fast. Sit with them, say "that's terrible," and just stay present. I'm a natural fixer, and I've had to learn that silence and steady presence help more than a quick answer ever does. “Fully Known, Fully Loved” – The Conversation That Changed Everything explores what happens when we stop hiding the parts of ourselves we’re afraid others will reject. In this episode, I reflect on the story of the woman at the well who intentionally came to draw water at noon, away from the crowds, and encountered Jesus instead. He already knew her story, including the messy and painful parts she likely wanted to hide, yet He met her with truth, grace, and love. I explore what it means to be fully known and still fully loved by God. So often, we believe that if people knew everything about us, they would walk away, and we can carry that same fear into our relationship with God. But Jesus shows us that we don't have to hide behind our past, our mistakes, or the image we try to maintain. We can bring our whole selves into His presence and discover that His love is not based on pretending to be someone we're not. When we stop running from our story and allow God's truth to meet us there, shame begins to lose its power. You don't have to be perfect to be loved, and you don't have to hide your wounds to belong. The Blessing and the Wound: What You Carry Out of the Fight explores those moments when the consequences of your choices finally catch up with you and there seems to be nowhere left to run. In this episode, I reflect on Jacob’s life and the night he found himself alone, wrestling with God. Jacob had spent much of his life relying on his own plans and schemes, but this encounter changed everything. By morning, he walked away with both a blessing and a limp. Through Jacob’s story, I explore what it means to come out of a difficult season carrying both the evidence of God’s faithfulness and the scars of the struggle. "But God Meant It for Good" — When You Can't Yet See What He's Doing explores what it means to trust God when your circumstances make no sense. If you are in a season that feels confusing, painful, or completely different from what you hoped for, I want to remind you that the middle of the story is not the end. Sometimes what looks like a setback is part of a bigger purpose that you simply cannot see yet. Through the story of Joseph, I explore how God can work through betrayal, disappointment, hardship, and seasons of waiting to accomplish something greater. Joseph went from being thrown into a pit by his own brothers to eventually standing in a position of influence, but the journey between those moments was anything but easy. My goal is to encourage you to keep trusting God when you cannot understand what He is doing, knowing that He can take what was meant for harm and ultimately use it for good.
