This week on the Big Show is about Pagan Pride, the Race to Wrigley, and how a long day can and should affect your characters. We came up with the topic of "physicality in writing" because we did a twelve-hour day in Reno on Saturday, selling books at the Pagan Pride Festival. We had a great time, talked to lots of people, and sold books, but it was still a twelve-hour workday. Then we did our annual Race to Wrigley on Sunday to support Chicago Cubs charities. We used to dream about doing these little things and more without having to balance a forty-hour work week on top of it, but now we find out that...yeah. Advil is our friend. When you send your characters on their Hero's Journey, and we used Luke Skywalker as an example, achievement and finding your dreams always come with a physical price. The Luke we saw at the beginning of the "Star Wars" saga is way different than the one we saw at the end. We talk about how the writer should be mindful of physical challenges from the Hero's Journey in their books. One day, back when we were young(er) and carefree, we threw a snowball from the top of the mountain without realizing that the snowball would grow larger and larger... Nevada journalist, author, and creator of the Backyard Traveler series, Rich Moreno returns to "The CC & JT Amateur Hour" where we discuss the creative and publishing journey behind his first book of short stories. Known for his non-fiction works centered around the Silver State, Rich's transition into fiction showcases the creative process that many writers navigate, blending personal experiences with the landscapes of the American West. Tales from the Nevada Ether began when he submitted a story to an anthology curated by Carson City publisher Stephen Provost and Dragon Crown Books. This submission led to a series of published stories in subsequent anthologies, ultimately culminating in the collection of his own short stories.
