Description

Oxfam South Africa says the country's wealth gap remains extreme. Its new report finds that the richest one percent held nearly 55 percent of South Africa's wealth in 2024. It says the country's richest billionaire owns more wealth than the poorest 70 percent combined. Oxfam also says the bottom half of South Africans have negative wealth, meaning their debts exceed their assets. The organisation is calling for measures to reduce inequality.
