Valley Echoes

In this episode of Valley Echoes, we go deeper into the sermon PretEnding and Jesus’ words, “Blessed are the pure in heart.” Why are we so tempted to hide behind versions of ourselves that feel safer, stronger, or more acceptable? What can Jacob’s story teach us about pretending, identity, and the exhausting work of maintaining a mask? We also explore what Jesus means by purity of heart, why authenticity is more than simply “being yourself,” and what happens when people become so accustomed to appearances that even the real thing can look suspicious. Along the way, we wrestle with masks, motives, hypocrisy, and the unsettling possibility that sometimes the hardest person to be honest with is ourselves.

In this episode of Valley Echoes, we go deeper into the idea of Jesus as the Muted Mediator. Why does the Bible place so much emphasis on hearing, speaking, and conversation? What happens when people stop listening — and why does Jesus sometimes choose silence at the very moments we might expect Him to speak?

- Based on the Sermon of September 12, 2026 In this episode of Valley Echoes, we go deeper into some of the tensions sitting underneath the message. What does it look like to stay close to broken people without being shaped by the same brokenness? How do we confront what is wrong without losing compassion for the person? And how do we know when faithfulness means stepping back — or staying in the fight? We also talk about the way Scripture invites us to do more than simply hunt for the quickest practical takeaway. What happens when we slow down, sit with difficult passages, notice repeated patterns, and ask what the biblical authors may be inviting us to wrestle with? Along the way, we return to Moses, Elijah, and Jesus to explore what mediation really demands — and why these stories may have more to say than we first realize.

- Based on the Sermon of September 5, 2026 In this episode of Valley Echoes, we go deeper into the question of what it means to stand in the gap for someone. Looking at Noah, Lot, Moses, Elijah, and ultimately Jesus, we explore the tension between protecting yourself from destructive influences and refusing to give up on people too quickly. When is it right to step back? When are we called to stay, intercede, and fight for someone? And how do we enter another person’s brokenness without being pulled into it ourselves? At the heart of the conversation is the example of Moses — a man willing to identify with a broken people — and Jesus, the perfect Mediator who comes down, stays with us, and never stops working for our restoration.

- Based on the Sermon of August 29, 2026. In this episode of Valley Echoes, we go beyond the sermon to explore what it means for Jesus to be our mediator — the One who brings heaven down to us. Through the stories of Noah, Abraham, Moses, Elijah, and ultimately Jesus, we wrestle with intercession, judgment, grace, and the question of whether anyone is ever truly beyond saving. Along the way, we talk about what it means to stand in the gap for others, how God responds to brokenness, and why human inability is never the final word. At the heart of the conversation is a simple hope: “They could not” does not mean “He could not.”
